UK Athletics is England’s governing body when it comes to sports development and training. Its primary role is for the training and conditioning of a UK athlete for upcoming international events such as the 2008 Olympics. UK Athletics was established in 1999 and has quickly become the world’s most successful sports and athletics governing body.

The UK Athletics coaching staff is composed of highly trained coaches who ensure the proper training and conditioning of all UK Athletic athletes and potential athletes. UK Athletics is also composed of highly dedicated staff, personnel and volunteers that are as passionate as the athletes in reaching their goal of athletic supremacy in international events.

The UK Athletics department is headed by UK Athletics President Lynn Davies. Lynn Davies was a former British athlete who was a record holder for the long jump division. As a governing body for athletics, UK Athletics not only makes sure that British athletes are well-trained and well-conditioned for the Olympics, it also encourages all British citizens regardless of age, condition, athletic ability and background to engage in sports through different programs and televised events.

UK Athletics is highly responsible for ensuring that athletics in the United Kingdom is maintained in a clean way which means that the use of drugs on athletes is highly restricted and monitored. UK Athletics is also responsible for the development and implementation of rules and regulations for the sport as well as the implementation of training programs on health, safety and athletic welfare to coaches and athletes alike.

In terms of funding, UK Athletics is also responsible in looking out for and making sure that each UK athlete is being sponsored in terms of training and conditioning. UK Athletics is continuously searching for commercial partners and sponsors to help fund for athletes training and conditioning. The funding that UK Athletics generate would also help in improving the facilities and equipments for training as well as to be used in scouting for potential athletes that would eventually replace athletes that are about to retire. As it is, UK athletics have produced one of the most intriguing athletes of the Athens Olympics when Kelly Holmes won the women's 800m and 1500m gold medals.
