Bulgaria’s Stefka Kostadinova made the highest jump recorded in 1987. It was Russia’s Tatyana Lysenko that made history with the hammer throw in 2007. Russia’s Olimpiada Ivanova in 2005 recorded best of 20K road walk event.

Olympic track field records are from Canada’s Donavan Bailey in the 100 meters, Michael Johnson of US in the 200 hundred meters while 10,000 meters was led by Ethiopia’s Haile Gebrselassie among others. Women’s 10,000-meter run was headed by Fernanda Ribeiro of Portugal in 1996.
