Multi Events

Multi events are one of the most anticipated series of sport activities in the world. Competitors from all around the globe are really taking the challenge it offers especially in the Olympics. There are two kinds of multi events, and let's briefly take a look at each of them.

The decathlon is a popular event in the world of athletics that combines or features ten track and field sports or events. Every event is contested over two consecutive days, and the overall champion is determined by the combined points an athlete will accumulate on all those ten events. The athletes will get respective points on every event that they participate in this multi event category, and this will be the basis of one’s rankings in the world of decathlon. This multi event is only open to men, while women on the other hand will take part in the heptathlon.

The decathlon is also a set of athletic sports or events gathered together to test an athlete’s stamina, strength, agility, concentration and any other athletic skill. Moreover, it includes five events performed over two consecutive days. On the first day, the athlete must do a 100-meter run, shot put, 400 meters, high jump and long jump. This day will test the competitor’s power, endurance skill and agility. Day two consists of athletic activities such as 110-meter hurdles, pole vault, javelin, discus and 1500 meter run. This day on the other hand will test the competitor’s personal techniques on approaching the different field events and endurance.

The pentathlon on the other hand is another multi event that features, this time, only five sports or athletic events. The five competitions are a short foot race, javelin throw, wrestling, discus throw and long jump. This multi event is actually a sport being practiced by ancient Greeks, and ancient competitors highly regard the would-be result of this competition. The activities of discus throw and wresting bears great similarities when it comes to how both are being contested as compared to their modern versions.

Other events are held in a stadium for public viewing. The process of long jump is also very unusual because of some startling differences if compared to the current rules of modern long jump competitions. The sport of javelin and discus throw however allows players five tries or throws and from there, the person that will have the longest throw distance will be declared as the winner.
